Watching the Notre Dame game today and final 2 mins was most thrilling ride of the year. I do have to wonder about the refs in the game. They made more bad calls in minute and a half then all year long. It started when Notre Dame let up a little and The Navy Goats ran one in to make score 27-14. Then The on side kick was knocked out of bounds by a notre Dame player. The threw a flag on him and had 15 yards added on and a re-kick. Now in all my years of football I never heard or seen this rule enforced. I seen pro and College football game where fumbles and On side kicks where punched out of bounds. Not uonce was there a pentalty.
So Navy gets the ball back. They throw a deep pass whuch was called a touchdon. The man had a his heel on the white line. So a challebge was called. They said his tippy toes where in before his heel was out.. That must be a new rule I thought the foot had to be down. His toes and heel was the same foot. So Navy ball on the 1 yard line. Now the play clock to start on the whistle. So they hike the ball and score. Yet only 1 second was taken off the clock. A one second play. Wow that must of been quick. No the time clock was never started. The Extra point attempt, a plentaly running in to the kicker. What roughing the kicker? He baerly touched him and he was moving forward kick the ball and landed on a Notre Dame player.
So another on side kick. Notre Dame did not even attempt to get ball they watched it land in Navys Arms. So they are running a little a few passes. A 3rd and 4, qb runs up the middle and gets three. Yet ge gets credit for a 1st down. A yard short from where his knee went down. Ok so they give him the first down. They spike the ball, bring second down. They set up a short pass. The clock is running and they have two attempts left. They call there fourth time out in the half. I figure a pentaly would be called. A flag thrown. Weis is complaining. The Refs meet and go to Charlie. What do they say, I suppose sorry Charlie. As they start the clock with Navy over the ball. They try a pass to the endzone it falls in complete. So 4th down and only need a few yards. I am sure they could use another time out....lol. The throw just enought for first. Luckly it is not caught and Irish win.
I was so up and down in this game and to think a few bad calls could made a improbable comback come to life. Lucky of the Irish finally kicked in. Well, Time to get readu for the Eagles game.

Vet, that sounds like a great (or not so great for the refs) finish to a game. As you know I gave up College Fottball several years back. I know you are a big ND fan, so that must have been tough to watch.
On the onside kick...you're right, they never call that penalty. Even during a play from scrimmage they don't ccall it if you bat it out of bounds...usually they will call it, if you are batting it forward (or backwards depending if you are offense or defense).
The tippie toes thing...I would have to actually see the play to have an opinion on it. But the rule is that the tip of your toe does count, just as 1 knee equals 2 feet. Now if his heel was touching at the same time as the toes, then that's out. I didn't see the play, but know I will have to watch SportsCenter to see it!
The 4th time out...that's just...bull. That's a 15 yard penalty and a 10 second run-off if the clock was already running and under 1 minute.
You just can't compete against ref's like that...unless you have a multiple TD lead!
Peace!
