College football is cheating us posted on 12/08/2008
I don’t really want to talk about that three-letter curse word, But Cause Stupidity has to prevail, it will be discussed.
Now I love college football with a passion. It’s the only team sport I love where I don’t have an unquestionable favorite team. Sure there are teams I pull for and they are PLENTY of teams I don’t like, but there is no true king.
There is a problem with this love. It’s a problem that many people have. It’s a problem with an ugly new life, a life on “The Leader” itself. ESPN is selling us out by attaching to the host of the enemy. I understand that the NCAA could have taken their product elsewhere, but why does Bristol have to step in? Why can’t they fight it? Or not show bowl games? Or not show any games? ESPN could have fought it, but they decided to join it.

Why Derrick Rose will be the best PG to come out of Chicago. posted on 12/07/2008
Let me start off by saying that Isiah Thomas was a GREAT basketball player. He was a star at St. Joe's in Westchester, IL. He won a title at Indiana. He won 2 titles with the Auburn Hills Pistons. He was named one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time. He was also born and raised on the west side of Chicago. To make it out of this dreary area and to have become an NBA legend is an UNBELIEVEABLE accomplishment. I have been in and around this area and it isn't picturesque to say the least.
Derrick Rose has taken a similar route.( When you read the word "route" do you pronounce it "root" or "rout"? These are the things I wonder about. I know.) Derrick grew up on the south side of Chicago. Definitely not a picnic there either. He played high school ball at Simeon and won 2 state titles there. My best memory of him was his torching of Oak Hill Academy on national television. He was the best player on the court by far and the court had Brandon Jennings on it. He took his act to Memphis to try and bring a national title to Calipari and co. The Tigers were a miracle triple from the might-have might-not-have been marijuana induced Mario Chalmers from winning the championship. I was upset they lost but held out slim hope Rose might stay one more year and try and finish the deal. That line of thinking changed with a little luck and a little lotto.
