I just started watching football seriously about three years ago so I’ll freely admit I don’t know everything about the game. Being a quick study, I do know that Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb are two of the best things to happen to the Eagles franchise. What I criticize them about are their decisions, not their play and play-calling, respectively.
I was upset that Andy wanted to start Donovan last year because I wanted him to be kinda like Favre and play for us for at least another 5 to 10 years. A perfect example is Shawne Merriman. He was stupid to wanna play this year with torn ligaments in his knee. If he had played this year he would have undoubtedly ended his NFL career. Coming back from an ACL injury in months would have spelled disaster for Donovan. I have friends who played rugby in college, torn their ACLs and went back to playing rugby the next year. Three years removed from the situation I still see them walking around with a limp.
I know that shows how passionate they are about the game. I understand that, but what I don’t understand is why so many players try to come back from injuries so soon. Granted, a players time in the league is limited but I would much rather have 10 years of great stats vs. 15 years of mediocre stats all because I wanted to come back to soon from an injury. Just my $.02.
